United Immunity, a clinical stage biotechnology company, has raised a total of ¥2.2 billion in private financing, comprising ¥1.8 billion through a third-party allotment of new shares and ¥0.4 billion through debt financing.
In addition, the company’s project, “Development of in vivo CAR-Macrophage Therapy for Refractory Solid Tumours,” has been selected for the Strengthening Programme for Pharmaceutical Startup Ecosystem (V-eco) of the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED).
By combining the ¥2.2 billion in private financing raised in this round with up to approximately ¥2.8 billion in public grant funding, the company expects to have access to up to ¥5.0 billion in total development funding to accelerate research and clinical development of its lead programme UI-102 and in vivo macrophage engineering programmes for the treatment of solid tumours and fibrotic diseases.
The company will also consider additional financing, as needed, to accelerate and expand new research and development programmes in therapeutic areas beyond oncology.
“This financing will enable us to strengthen our foundation as a drug-discovery company to operate globally and to significantly enhance our R&D capabilities to bring new treatment options to patients" said Masato Kishida CEO. "We are deeply grateful to the corporations, investors, financial institutions, AMED, and all other stakeholders who have supported us. United Immunity will continue working to deliver to patients around the world innovative in vivo immunotherapies originating in Japan and born from the convergence of immunology and nanoparticle technology".
