The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MoHW), South Korea government recently held a follow-up video conference with the Indonesian government, to advance implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Cooperation on AI-based Primary Healthcare and Human Resource Development.
On April 1, during Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to Korea, the leaders of the two countries jointly announced the launch of the Global AI Universal Basic Society (AI-UBS) Solidarity Initiative, which aims to advance the vision of an “AI Universal Basic Society” in which AI technology helps advance people’s basic rights. As a top priority area of cooperation, the two sides signed the MoU on AI-based Primary Healthcare.
As concrete implementation models, Korea has introduced an AI-based teleconsultation model for medically underserved areas and an AI-based, primary care-based chronic disease management model for medically underserved areas. Both models are scheduled to be piloted in Korea’s island and mountainous regions in the second half of this year as part of a project supporting the rapid commercialisation of AI applications.
Going forward, the two countries plan to sustain exchanges through joint public-private seminars and other channels. They will also pursue further discussions with private-sector partners―including university hospitals, major technology companies, and academic institutions―to refine the cooperation models.
