Indian firm Fermbox Bio and Thailand-based BBGI have formalised a joint venture to establish cutting-edge precision fermentation facilities in Thailand and Southeast Asia.
Initially, these precision fermentation facilities will focus on enzyme production, expanding into innovative Synthetic Biology (Synbio) products for global customers with an expected total fermentation capacity of up to 1 million liters, equipped with the state of art up-stream and down-stream equipment with an estimated investment of $82 million in phases.
Phase 1 will start with the installed capacity of around 200,000 litres with an initial investment value of approximately $13 million. Together, BBFB (BBGI and Fermbox Bio) has planned to establish a Bio hub in Chachoengsao province, a province of the Eastern Economic Corridor. The plan aims to enhance the country’s quality in every aspect, focusing on the New S-Curve targeting the agriculture and biotechnology industry, which is expected to be supported by establishing a contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) plant from the government.
Fermbox Bio will contribute its expertise in synthetic biology and manufacturing processes, and BBGI will contribute its large-scale project execution, operational experience, and funding.
