Collaboration for developing innovations in geriatrics and gerontology

Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Siriraj Hospital, Mahidol University, and Dr Hidenori Arai, President of the National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (NCGG) of Japan, and the Administrative Members of both institutes, including Clin. Prof. Visit Vamvanit, Director of Siriraj Hospital, and Prof. Weerasak Muangpaisan, Head of the Division of Geriatrics, Department of Preventive and Social Medicine, recently presided over the “Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Renewal Signing Ceremony” between Siriraj and NCGG.

This MoU aims to support and promote cooperation in the fields of education, research, and academic services, including academic and educational exchange, for the mutual benefit of both parties.

The National Center for Geriatrics and Gerontology (NCGG), which is composed of the National Hospital for Geriatric Medicine and the Research Institute, is one of the six national centres for advanced and specialised medicine in Japan.

At present, Siriraj is focusing on improving medical research and developing innovations in geriatrics and gerontology. While geriatrics deals with the care of the elderly and their needs, gerontology is the study of ageing and its impacts on the population.

Prof. Apichat Asavamongkolkul, along with Clin. Prof. Visit Vamvanit, and Prof. Weerasak Muangpaisan, recently also visited the Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Geriatrics and Gerontology in Japan. The visit aimed to explore opportunities for future collaboration between the two institutions.
