Healthcare Information Management Systems Society (HIMSS) Asia Pacific Digital healthcare Week starts in Singapore

Singapore: HIMSS (Healthcare Information Management Systems Society) Asia Pacific Digital healthcare Week kicked off in Singapore on Sept 15th with a strong note that in the time to come healthcare delivery will evolve in a dramatic way with the integration of information technology across levels of services to create platforms such as electronic medical records, digital pathology, automated drug dispensing and paperless hospital solutions.

Speaking at the opening session, Mr Gan Kim Yong, Minister of Health, Singapore remarked that, "Information Technology has become an indispensable part of our existence, intersecting almost all aspects of our lives. It has come to play a very important role in healthcare too, from ordering of medication to having electronic medical records to facilitate timely access to information. IT holds the promise of helping us better meet the needs of an ageing population, an issue Singapore as well as other healthcare systems around the world are grappling with."

HIMSS Asia Pacific 2014, hosted in Singapore from Sep 15-19 will highlight the application of information and technology over traditional healthcare approach to improve care outcome and operational excellence. Around 90 distinguished speakers, 54 sponsors and exhibitors and more than 1300 delegates are expected to participate in the show.

Mr Linus Tham, Chairperson, HIMSS Asia Pac14, commented, "Beyond the exploration of technology itself, HIMSS Asia Pac14 is an important opportunity for us to discuss the implementation of new innovations and procedures. One such discussion will be led by Professor Henrique Martins, MD, from Portugal's Ministry of Health, who will share his insights on how to successfully engage patients and lead doctors into adopting healthcare IT."
