SingHealth deputy group gets a new CEO

Professor Wong Tien Yin will be appointed as SingHealth’s deputy group CEO in research and education with effect from Jan 1, 2018. Professor Soo Khee Chee will be retiring from this position on Dec 31.

In his role, Professor Soo steered collaborations with industry partners that led to improvements in clinical care. He also built a strong academic culture and laid a strong research foundation.

He was instrumental in SingHealth's partnership with North Carolina's Duke University, and in bringing Duke-NUS Medical School to the Singapore General Hospital Campus.

Prof Soo was the founding director at the National Cancer Centre Singapore (NCCS) since 1998. He led the growth of NCCS into its current position as a leading cancer institution both in Singapore and abroad.

Prof Wong is the medical director of the Singapore National Eye Centre and academic chair at the SingHealth Duke-NUS Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences Academic Clinical Programme.

He has previously served as SingHealth's group director in research as well as executive director of the Singapore Eye Research Institute, where he continues to chair the board.

For his research, Prof Wong has been recognised nationally and internationally with numerous awards. He has been recognised as the top researcher in any field from two leading Universities in consecutive years: the Outstanding Researcher Award from the National University of Singapore in 2004 and the Woodward Medal from the University of Melbourne in 2005. In 2010, he was awarded the National Clinician Scientist Award in Singapore and the President's Science Award.
