Singapore: Thailand's flagship biotech organization, BIOTEC-NSTDA took part in an exhibition of Kelantan International BIO-Carnival Conference and Exhibition 2013 (BIO-K) on February 28-March 2, 2013, in Kelantan, Malaysia.

Mr HE Woravat Auapinyakul, Thailand Minister of Science and Technology, was among honorary guests presiding over the opening ceremony, along with Mr YAB Tuan Guru Dato' Bentara Setia Hj Nik Abdul Aziz B Nik Mat, Chief Minister of Kelantan and YB Dato' Hj Che Abdullah B Mat Nawi, chairman of agriculture, Cottage Industry & Biotechnology.

BIOTEC exhibition displayed technologies related to agriculture and microbial utilization, which include: phytoremediation technology for saline land, the use of geographic information system (GIS) for mapping soil salinity potential, BIOTEC Microbe Bank which is a rich source for developing new products for agriculture and pharmaceutical industries.

The display also showcased a number of commercial products developed by Thai scientists such as diagnostic tests for shrimp and plant diseases, animal feeds, bioremediation agent, biocontrol agent (NPV) and enzyme for green pulp and paper bleaching process.

Other Thai and Malaysian organizations participated in BIO-K include: Network of Industrial Technology Assistance Programe :iTAP, Thailand National Innovation Agency, Thailand Institute of Scientific and Technological Research, Thailand Institute of Nuclear Technology, Malaysian Biotechnology Corporation and Malaysian Agriculture Research and Development institute (MARDI) and Universiti Malaysia Kelantan.
