Cochlear will be launching new implant in EU
Singapore: The company's advanced Cochlear Nucleus Profile implant with the Contour Advance electrode, the first of new Profile series, will go on sale in Europe in June 2014.
Global technical, safety and certification services provider TÃœV Rheinland has approved the new implant after Cochlear relocated and developed a new production process for its Macquarie University facility.
Cochlear has said that its Profile series will have the thinnest implant body on the market and will be the platform for its next generation of implants. It will succeed the Cl500 series of implants, which were the target of a costly product recall in 2011-2012. The Profile series is based on an improved version of this design.
"The introduction further expands what is already the industry's largest cochlear implant portfolio and supports a wider range of surgical techniques among implanting surgeons, giving them and their patients the greatest possible choice," the company said in its official announcement.
The Profile with Contour Advance Electrode will be launched in other countries and regions as regulatory approvals are received.
