Singapore – Virtus Health announces the appointment of Shane Solomon to its Board as a Non-Executive Director. Solomon is a highly experienced healthcare professional having worked in numerous Executive and Board roles across the public and private health sector over the past 34 years.

In 1996, he became Group Chief Executive Officer at Mercy Health and Aged Care, Victoria and held senior positions with the Victorian public health system between 2000 and 2005, including the role of Undersecretary for Health. In 2006 as Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Hospital Authority he managed the public hospital system in Hong Kong with a budget of $5 billion AUD (26,000 beds and 57,000 staff).

In 2011, Solomon was appointed by the Council of Australian Governments to be Chairman of the Independent Hospital Pricing Authority.  Currently still in this role, Solomon is also on the Board of Silver Chain, one of the largest community-based health care service providers in Australia.

Virtus Chairman, Peter Macourt, welcomed the appointment of Solomon, saying his extensive health sector experience is a valuable addition to the Virtus Board. “Shane brings diverse and impressive experience acquired through both the public and private health sector, with insight in health policy and a strong understanding of operational and clinical governance,” he said.

Solomon will replace Peter Turner, who is retiring as a Director of the Company at the forthcoming Annual General meeting.
