30 November 2023 | News

This year's exhibition is set to feature iconic hospitals and medical institutions from across Taiwan

Healthcare+ Expo Taiwan 2023, the largest medical trade fair in the APAC region, is scheduled to unfold from November 30 to December 3 at the Taipei Nangang Exhibition Center. Now in its seventh edition, the exhibition is poised to exceed past scales, featuring over 2,300 booths, a 10% expansion in exhibition space, and a pioneering emphasis on more than 70 medical centers and hospitals. This positions it as the world's inaugural medical technology exhibition with a focal point on hospitals, spotlighting avant-garde medical technology and applications in smart healthcare.

This year's exhibition is set to feature iconic hospitals and medical institutions from across Taiwan, encompassing over 600 organizations in IT/ICT, biotech, electronic, and related sectors. The exhibition unfolds across three key themes: "Medtech," "Biotech," and "Healthtech." This innovative approach spans nine fields, incorporating "Smart Hospital," "Medical Devices," and "Digital Health," thereby unveiling the inventive structure of entire supply chains and partnerships in the healthcare industry.

The exhibition goes beyond offering a vital platform for industry professionals to connect; it also welcomes the general public, providing opportunities to delve into health-related topics. On-site, diverse health check-up programs await, encompassing sleep apnea testing, body fat and muscle mass analysis, foot health assessments, and more. An impressive lineup of over a hundred medical experts will share insights on preventive healthcare, children's health, cancer treatment, and other pertinent topics, offering a comprehensive view of the latest advancements in the medical field.

New Business Horizons in Southeast Asian Markets

The Healthcare+ Expo Taiwan 2023 not only concentrates on the domestic biomedicine industry but also extends the opportunities of smart healthcare to Southeast Asian countries such as Vietnam and Malaysia through the continuous promotion of the New Southbound Policy. This exhibition serves as an excellent opportunity for the Taiwanese healthcare industry to venture into the international market, acting as a bridge to expand its business footprint in emerging markets within New Southbound countries. Simultaneously, it significantly propels Taiwan's smart medical technology towards international development.

Vietnam and Malaysia are significant target countries under the New Southbound Policy, encountering challenges in their existing healthcare systems, which include a shortage of doctors, nurses, and medical facilities. The distribution of medical resources is uneven, with better facilities concentrated in urban areas, leaving remote regions lacking appropriate medical services. The insufficient and scattered medical information makes it challenging for patients to access timely and accurate medical advice. Additionally, Vietnam's healthcare system prioritizes treatment over prevention, resulting in an increase in chronic disease patients. Malaysia is also dealing with an aging population, leading to a growing demand for long-term care and chronic disease management.

Through the introduction of smart healthcare, these countries can enhance the quality of remote medical services, offering timely medical advice to residents in remote areas. For example, establishing an electronic medical record system to integrate patient medical information improves the traceability and reliability of healthcare. Smart healthcare can also provide better elderly care, including remote monitoring and intelligent assistive devices, easing the pressure on healthcare professionals and families. Furthermore, it can effectively tackle disease prevention, offering virtual health services to bridge the urban-rural healthcare gap, allowing residents in remote areas to access higher-quality medical services. In terms of chronic disease management, smart healthcare assists in providing personalized chronic disease management plans, helping patients better comprehend their health conditions. Through the New Southbound Policy, smart healthcare will become a potent tool for Vietnam and Malaysia to address current healthcare challenges, enhance healthcare quality, extend healthcare coverage, and generate more business opportunities.

AI Accelerates Global Healthcare Innovation

In the spotlight at this year's exhibition is medical AI, taking the forefront in advancing healthcare. Leading the charge in this new era of AI is ChatGPT, spearheading innovative applications by seamlessly integrating advanced AI technology with medical scenarios for more intelligent and efficient clinical solutions. Taiwanese corporations that have firmly established themselves in the AI landscape, including Quanta, Wistron, ASUS, and Acer, are set to showcase their latest computing platforms and products at the Expo. The presence of multinational giants, such as Intel, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Oracle, further amplifies the exhibition's impact, adding significant value to the discourse on the intersection of AI and healthcare.

AI significantly improves the efficiency of smart healthcare, personalized treatment, preventive healthcare, and remote medical services. Through the analysis of extensive patient data, AI predicts patient responses to various treatment methods, enabling the creation of customized and precise treatment plans. This not only enhances the success rate of treatment but also reduces side effects. Additionally, AI swiftly and accurately identifies anomalies in medical images, assisting doctors in making more precise diagnoses. This contributes to the increased early detection of diseases and facilitates early treatment interventions.

AI has the capability to predict potential health risks, enabling doctors and patients to take proactive measures and reduce the likelihood of disease occurrence. The utilization of AI in managing extensive medical data ensures enhanced security, accuracy, and reliability. This, in turn, contributes to improved medical decision-making and facilitates information sharing among medical teams. The exhibition will highlight the innovative applications of AI in the medical industry, featuring various companies demonstrating the latest medical technology products that integrate AI—a pivotal focus of the event.

The Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (IBMI), the organizer, has devoted considerable efforts to promote this year's Healthcare+ Expo Taiwan. With these endeavors, the exhibition is set to become a significant milestone in smart healthcare, advancing further towards internationalization and leading the future development of global medical technology. Healthcare+ Expo Taiwan 2023 will not only serve as a showcase for innovative medical technology but also as a platform for international exchange and cooperation, establishing a robust foundation for Taiwan's leading position in the global medical technology field.
