Sanofi, the French pharmaceutical leader, has inaugurated a state-of-the-art Innovation and Operations Center in Chengdu, southwestern China, further solidifying its commitment to global innovation. The new center will enhance Sanofi’s R&D, clinical operations, manufacturing, and supply chain services.

According to Madeleine Roach, Executive Vice President and Head of Business Operations at Sanofi, Chengdu’s prominence in the biopharmaceutical sector, coupled with its skilled talent pool and dynamic innovation ecosystem, makes it a strategic choice for expanding the company’s footprint in China. She emphasized that this initiative will deliver value to both patients and partners.

The new center is set to create over 600 professional roles by the end of 2026 and is already integrated into Sanofi’s global network of operations hubs spanning India, Hungary, Malaysia, Colombia, and Spain. This interconnected system ensures seamless and efficient operations worldwide.

Sanofi’s journey in China began in 1982 with the establishment of a local office. Since then, the company has built a robust presence, operating multiple production and R&D facilities across the country, including R&D hubs in Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, and Suzhou. In 2025, Sanofi also invested €1 billion to launch an insulin active pharmaceutical ingredient manufacturing base in Beijing, underscoring its dedication to advancing healthcare innovation in China.
