AbbVie has announced the availability of ELAHERE® (mirvetuximab soravtansine) in Singapore for the treatment of platinum-resistant high grade serous epithelial ovarian cancer, fallopian tube or primary peritoneal cancer.

ELAHERE is indicated as a monotherapy for the treatment of adult patients with folate receptor alpha (FRα) positive, platinum-resistant high grade serous epithelial ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer who have received one to three prior systemic treatment regimens.

Ovarian cancer is a malignant tumour that arises from the ovaries and adjacent structures such as the fallopian tubes or peritoneum. It is known as the deadliest gynaecological cancer because it is usually detected in its later stages of development and spread.

First-line treatment for advanced ovarian cancer typically consists of surgery and platinum-based chemotherapy, but 70% of patients experience recurrence after initial therapy, and resistance to platinum therapy accumulates with repeated treatments.

As a result, about one in five patients relapse within six months of platinum therapy, progressing to platinum-resistant ovarian cancer (PROC). These patients have limited treatment options, and many are physically frail from prior therapies. In addition to the physical burden, patients may experience emotional distress due to social isolation and side effects such as hair loss from prior treatments, which can negatively impact prognosis.
