CanSino Biologics has announced that China’s National Medical Products Administration has accepted the New Drug Application for its Tetanus, Reduced Diphtheria and Pertussis (Acellular, Five Components) Combined Vaccine, Adsorbed, for people aged six years and above.
The vaccine, referred to as Td5cp Adolescent and Adult, is being developed as a booster for adolescents and adults and was granted Priority Review status in May 2026.
If approved, the vaccine is expected to complement CanSinoBIO’s recently approved three-component DTaP vaccine for infants, Tripecia, expanding the company’s pertussis-containing vaccine portfolio across different age groups.
Pertussis is a highly contagious respiratory infectious disease caused by Bordetella pertussis. CanSinoBIO said reported cases in China exceeded 470,000 in 2024, representing an approximately 12-fold increase compared with 2023.
The company said the resurgence has increased attention on booster immunisation in adolescents and adults, particularly as China has lacked a dedicated pertussis-containing booster vaccine for people aged six years and above.
CanSinoBIO’s Tripecia vaccine for infants was approved for marketing in April 2026 through the NMPA’s Priority Review pathway.
Compared with the three-component vaccine, which contains PT, FHA and PRN pertussis antigens, Td5cp Adolescent and Adult includes two additional antigens, FIM2 and FIM3.
Each antigen is individually purified and formulated at defined ratios, with the aim of supporting product quality and batch-to-batch consistency.
CanSinoBIO said the continued development of the vaccine will also support broader exploration of component-based pertussis vaccine technology across different age groups.
In July 2026, seven Chinese government departments, including the National Disease Control and Prevention Administration and the National Development and Reform Commission, issued the “15th Five-Year Plan for Disease Prevention and Control”, which calls for a life-course immunisation strategy covering the entire population.
The company said approval of Td5cp Adolescent and Adult would further expand its pertussis vaccine portfolio and support its strategy of developing vaccine products across different stages of life.
The NDA acceptance moves the candidate into formal regulatory review and represents the next step towards potential commercialisation in China.
