Singapore: Fears of the deadly Ebola becoming an endemic in Africa are exacerbating, with the CDC ringing alarm bells that one million people could be Ebola victims by the end of January 2015. The US President, Mr Barack Obama issued a blunt warning that the world was doing very little to support the countries grappling with the outbreak.

Mr Obama said, "I want us to be clear: We are not moving fast enough. We are not doing enough, there is still a significant gap between where we are and where we need to be." The President has announced that the Pentagon would build a field hospital and treatment units in Liberia, Guinea, and Sierra Leone, along with the establishment of a United Nations emergency mission to respond to the Ebola outbreak.

Mr Obama mentioned that the US had deployed 3000 medical personnel to Liberia and had also planned to build 17 treatment centers. With the virus causing unprecedented catastrophe, the front-line doctors treating Ebola patients in Liberia tell tales of panic, death and desperation.

Ms Joanne Liu, the international president of Doctors without Borders, said that her organization's hospital in Monrovia, the Liberian capital, opened for only 30 minutes each morning, rapidly filling the few beds that become free overnight because of the deaths.

Doctors said that any relief measures and addition of treatment centers must be implemented as soon as possible as the death rates were doubling every three weeks. They said that lack of proper infrastructure forced doctors to turn away patients and this led to further spread the disease in the community.
