Singapore: The Health Ministry of Saudi notified the World Health Organization (WHO) of two additional laboratory confirmed cases of infection with the MERS corona virus.

The new victims reported to be in their late thirties are known to reside at the Baha Region and Qunfudah Region. The patient in the Baha region was recently diagnosed with the infection and is under stable condition, said a news report. The patient had a history of animal contact as he delivered hay to a mixed animal market.

The victim at the Qunfudah Region was asymptomatic and was detected during the screening of contacts, of previously laboratory-confirmed cases. The patient had a history of frequent travel to Jeddah, but did not report any contact with animals.

The Ministry of Health, Population and Hospital Reform (MSPRH) announced that strict surveillance was undertaken to contain the spread and enhanced activities for the early detection and monitoring of virus was being carried out.
