CHA Biotech and Novartis Korea have signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish a collaborative framework for bio open innovation based on the Cell Gene Bioplatform (CGB).
Through this agreement, both companies plan to establish a cooperative system to support the discovery of innovative technologies, commercialisation, and global expansion of promising bio startups. They will jointly implement initiatives with bio startups, including technology scouting programmes for discovering innovative technologies, mentoring and education programmes, and networking events.
Additionally, they will explore investment linkages, global partnership opportunities, and potential collaborations with the government and relevant agencies for these startups.
The CGB will be developed as an integrated bio cluster connecting research and development, clinical trials, production, and business development, centered on cell and gene therapies.
It will house core infrastructure for the entire bio industry, including CGT CDMO facilities, cGMP manufacturing facilities, a biobank, and advanced research equipment.
CHA Biotech plans to allocate 10,000 square meters (3,000 pyeong) within CGB to establish the ‘K-Bio CIC Open Innovation Center’ and begin full-scale operations in the second half of 2026.
The ‘K-Bio CIC Open Innovation Center’ is the official name for ‘CGB-CIC,’ which CHA Biotech had previously used as a provisional name.
