Singapore: As the medical device companies are bringing innovation in wearable devices, getting through regulation and safety standards procedure could be quite a hassle to commercialize the product. Taiwan is hosting UL (Underwriters Laboratories), a global firm that specializes in certification and validation to provide insights and information to help wearable technology manufacturers build a regulatory knowledge foundation for devices.

To be hosted in Taipei during 13th WTconference 2014 on October 9, UL experts will provide product designers and manufacturers a knowledge sharing platform for safety testing, regulatory compliance and performance verification.

"When new technology arises, manufacturers tend to focus on the development of their product's unique features as well as amazing user-friendly interfaces. However, product safety and performance concerns should also be addressed during the production stage," said Mr Barry Yu, general manager, China, Consumer Technology Division, UL.

"By going through a comprehensive testing and certification process with a widely recognized third party conformity assessment organization, manufacturers can anticipate risks in many areas and mitigate them well in advance of product launch. In addition, the compliance proof will be the most influential marketing tool to gain consumer confidence," Mr Yu added.
