At a time when the entire world is reeling under the impact of COVID-19, members of Shincheonji Church from South Korea who have fully recovered from COVID-19 have come forward in the biggest plasma donation drive ever.

More than 4000 members of Shincheonji Church have begun donating their plasma for research purposes that will enable the health department to speed up the development of a vaccine that the world so desperately needs today.

In February and March, a massive outbreak among members of the Shincheonji Church made South Korea the scene of the first large outbreak outside of China.

At least 5,213 of the country's total 12,484 cases have been linked to the church outbreak, according to the Korea Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC).

“At a time when plasma donations to the Korean Green Cross have been low, Shincheonji Church’s contribution is invaluable. With prices of plasma from biotech companies around the world ranging from $350 to $40,000 dollars per milliliter, this sets Shincheonji’s donation at a value of about $83 billion dollars,” said the Shincheonji Church.

Experts are hopeful that the massive contribution of blood plasma by Shincheonji would accelerate the development of blood plasma treatment in the country.
