Singapore: At a recent ceremony held at the Taipei World Trade Center's Nangang Exhibition Hall, New Taipei-A city in Taiwan has inked collaboration deals with organizations from Japan, Thailand, and Malaysia to form a biotechnology industry alliance.

The alliance aims to boost biotech cooperation and development among Asian countries and plans to integrate existing resources for the future development of the industry, promoting technical cooperation.

The city's Mayor, Mr Eric Chu, in his capacity as a representative of the New Taipei City Biotechnology Alliance, signed the agreement with representatives of the Japan Bioindustry Association, the Thailand Center of Excellence for Life Sciences, and Malaysia's Johor Biotechnology and Biodiversity Corporation.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Chu said that the alliance will help in further boosting Taiwan's biotech strengths. New Taipei is an important base for biotechnology growth in Taiwan with 2114 companies, he added.

To further expand the sector's overseas reach, New Taipei will hold an international biotechnology industry workshop in November to be attended by buyers from Japan, Thailand and Malaysia and other countries, said officials with New Taipei's Economic Development Department.
