Singapore: As dengue continues to wreak havoc in Taiwan, the country's government has decided to further heighten efforts to combat the mosquito-borne infection in the southern part of the country. Taiwan CDC said that dengue infections sky rocketed this year, with the region reporting 1,100 cases as compared to 300 cases last year during the same period.

In a meeting convened by the Taiwan government to analyze the situation, the Taiwan CDC said that the central government will analyze dengue fever pattern and provide necessary training to local authorities to eliminate the dengue menace from Taiwan.

Mr Chou Jih-haw, deputy director, CDC, said that as more cases of dengue were reported this year, the CDC authorities must emphasize on helping local doctors improve their clinical practices.

He added that Taiwan has recorded more than 1,100 dengue fever cases this year, most of them found in the Lingya, Siaogang, Fongshan and Cianjhen districts of Kaohsiung. Mr Chou further said that the CDC expected the disease to peak further, ahead of the dengue season in October.

The Environmental Protection Agency of Taiwan said that they had mobilized more than 7, 50,000 people to clean mosquito breeding areas and apply pesticides.
