Singapore: In wake of new Ebola cases cropping up in the US and Spain, Taiwan health officials have declared that the country's regional hospitals will soon form a specialized Ebola response team, to tackle any cases of the deadly disease in the country.

The Taiwan CDC said that the first case of Ebola outside West Africa was a big warning to bolster prevention and surveillance efforts.

Mr Chou Jih-haw, deputy chief of Taiwan's Centers for Disease Control, said the Ministry of Health and Welfare has set aside funds to establish the response teams and has "prepared itself well to fight the battle."

Mr Jih-haw noted that the ministry had also sent doctors to West Africa to obtain hands-on experience in fighting the disease.

As the West African countries are scrambling with the deadliest outbreak ever recorded in history, international assistance is now pouring into West Africa. Recently, the UN committee approved a $49.9 million funding for the world body's large-scale response to tackle the spread of the deadly Ebola virus.
