Taiwan's National Health Research Institutes (NHRI) in collaboration with the National Defense Medical Center developing a rapid diagnostic test for the COVID-19. The test is expected to reach the market by the end of the year 2020.

A prototype of the test kit which produces the results within 10-15 minutes and has a 70 per cent accuracy rate was unveiled earlier in April.

The upper respiratory fluid sample of a suspected patient with SARS-CoV-2 is placed on a test strip, which indicates COVID-19 results by line indicator, two lines-positive and one line-negative.

The NHRI said it has already transferred the test technology to five domestic manufacturers and further aims to develop and mass-produce the rapid diagnostic test. However, clinical studies will be conducted out of Taiwan.
