Singapore: LanzaTech, which provides novel and economic routes to fuels and high value chemicals from waste gas streams, has been named a World Economic Forum Technology Pioneer 2013.

LanzaTech's unique process serves as a sustainable pathway to produce platform chemicals that serve as building blocks to products that have become indispensable in our lives such as rubber, plastics, synthetic fibers and fuels. It is currently operating a pre-commercial facility in China using steel mill off gases for ethanol production. Full commercial operation is targeted for 2013.

The World Economic Forum has selected 23 of the world's most innovative technology start-ups as technology pioneers. These industry-changing companies are being recognized for their potential to transform the future of business and society. Their achievements will be honored at the forum's annual meeting of the New Champions 2012 in Tianjin, China, from September 11-13.

The 23 technology pioneers were chosen based on their innovation, potential impact, growth and sustainability, proof of concept and leadership. "The program recognizes companies whose trail-blazing technologies are transforming our perceptions of what is possible in science and in business," said Ms Jennifer Holmgren, CEO, LanzaTech. "We realize that there are many technologies out there working towards bringing more low carbon fuels into the global fuel pool and so we are immensely proud to have been selected by the judges as one of those on the front line. LanzaTech's vision is to be a leader in providing alternative game changing solutions that will not only challenge current thinking around energy supply and use, but that will also enable energy to be more accessible to all."

This year's technology pioneers were selected for their visionary leadership and proven technology in the areas of information technology, telecommunications and new media, life sciences and health, and energy and environment. "These companies are more than pioneering the way we use technology; they are transforming how we as a society are growing and interacting with each other," said Ms Silvia von Gunten, head of Technology Pioneers at the World Economic Forum. "They are also providing new opportunities for people to harness the potential of technology."
