Singapore: Korean researchers at the Korean Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) have invented a new assessment criteria that can detect ophthalmocopia, or fatigue of the eyes, when watching 3D images.

KATS said that this assessment test had received approval as a standard test from the Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) Organization, US.

The evaluation method was created by a task force involving lead researcher Mr Lee Sang-hoon, a professor at Yonsei University, and 60 professionals from 10 countries including the United Kingdom, France, and Japan.

So far, the international assessment test standard for ophthalmocopia was based on 2D images. KATS emphasized that due to increased popularization of 3D TV, an international assessment test for 3D images was necessary. The organization said that the final approval of this test as an international standard, may be issued by IEEE by the end of this year.
