Malaysia, Japan ink deal to promote UHC

With a view to promote cooperation in Universal Health Coverage (UHC), Malaysia and Japan has inked a Memorandum of Cooperation (MoC)  in the Field of Healthcare. The MOC was signed aftera bilateral meeting of the both the countries health leaders.

Malaysian Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr S. Subramaniam, said in a statement, “The Memorandum of Cooperation among others is to promote medical technology, disease control and surveillance, training and research development.”

Meanwhile, The Asean and Japan Health Leaders today reaffirmed their close collaboration and pledged commitment to develop Asean-Japan Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Initiatives to achieve and advance sustainable UHC in Asean and Japan towards 2030.

The statement also said that the meeting shall continuously advocate on the need for a more comprehensive approach in building sustainable and resilient health systems in meeting the country's various health challenges.

Meanwhile, in a bid to further strengthen healthcare in Malaysia, the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) welcomed the new Medical Regulations 2017, which, requires doctors to undergo compulsory continuous professional development and keep themselves updated on developments in medicine despite being potentially burdensome. The new Medical Regulations 2017 came into force recently, with the aim to address the needs of the medical practice and to ensure safe and quality medical care to the people.
