Exabalate procedure to be offered in three China hospitals to treat women with uterine fibroids
Singapore: Insightec announced its first centers in China offering ExAblate, which is a noninvasive treatment for uterine fibroids. Three hospitals in Shangai would be offering the service namely, Shanghai First People's hospital, Huashan hospital and Fudan Cancer Care center.
The centers were inaugurated at the Shangai First People's hospital. Top dignitaries honored the occasion including Dr Xingpeng Wang, president of Shanghai First People's Hospital, Mr Weijun Han, director of Shanghai Municipal Cadres Health Bureau, Dr Robert Sigal, president of InSightec, Ms Diana Tang, and eminent people from about 100 hospitals all over the country.
ExAblate uses ultrasound technique along with magnetic resonance imaging to heat an area of the fibroid and destroy or ablate the tissue with pinpoint precision. The advantages of the technique are many including, no hospitalization, less risk profile and the procedure is incisionless with no complications or infections post treatment.
The inaugural function had many eminent speakers discussing the ultrasound technique, and its importance in treating fibroids. Dr Elizabeth Stewart, professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology discussed the importance of focused ultrasound for eliminating symptoms of uterine fibroids. Prof Zhengyu Jin, director of Radiology Department of Peking Union Medical College Hospital gave insights on the future of ultrasound systems in detecting and removing fibroids.
Prof Guixiang Zhang, director of Radiology Department of Shanghai First People's Hospital said," We are very happy to announce that we are the first in China, to offer this service, which would benefit many women and help them make the right healthcare decisions with the help of their doctors."
