Singapore: The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a warning against buying Bo Ying compound-Chinese medication for cold, as the drug was found to be containing lead. The FDA put out an alert about the product after it received an adverse event report, about the problems caused by the drug, upon administration to a toddler.

Bo-Ying compound is manufactured by Eu Yan Sang, an established manufacturer of Chinese medicines, with sales of $293 million in the last financial year and a website that boasts of its manufacturing practices.

The company claimed that the product investigated by the FDA had different packaging and is investigating whether another company manufactured the product under this brand name.

While the regular has issued an official warning against the product, the manufacturer is yet to recall products from the market.

According to the US FDA, "Exposure to lead can cause serious damage to the central nervous system, the kidneys, and the immune system. In children, chronic exposure to lead, even at low levels, is associated with impaired cognitive function, including reduced IQ, behavioral difficulties, and other problems."
