Singapore: Amid fears of H7N9 turning into a pandemic in China with a new bout of cases, the country's National Health and Family Planning Commission released in a reassuring statement.

The Chinese health authorities said that no proof has been found of the H7N9 virus spreading from human to human. The statement added that most human cases of H7N9 infection have been isolated so far.

China reported 11 new cases of H7N9 infections through this week, In January alone, there were 19 deaths and 96 human cases reported as per the Chinese Center for Disease Control. The second wave of H7N9 has pushed the total number of cases to higher than the first wave in 2013. Over 137 new H7N9 cases reported in China, while 60 H7N9 deaths have come to light.

The Commission's statement added that during the Spring Festival holidays, expert teams dispatched by the commission have been supervising local hospitals in Beijing, Shanghai Zhejiang, Fujian and Guangdong and diagnosing and treating H7N9 patients.

The health authorities will strive to prevent cases of severe infection and reduce casualties. Health departments and hospitals in provinces with higher incidences of H7N9 are working hard to identify H7N9 cases as early as possible, it added.
