Japan Vaccine seeks approval to sell intradermal seasonal influenza vaccine in Japan

Japan Vaccine, an affiliate of pharmaceutical giant Daiichi Sankyo, and Terumo Corporation have filed an application for the manufacture and sales approval for an intradermal seasonal influenza vaccine (The Vaccine) in Japan.

The Vaccine is a pre-filled syringe type, intradermal influenza HA vaccine co-developed by four companies - Daiichi Sankyo, Terumo, Japan Vaccine and Kitasato Daiichi Sankyo Vaccine.

Terumo claims that The Vaccine offers a more easy-to-use, surefire method to administer the drug in the blood stream than current methods. The device is also expected to ease patient hesitation to be injected and is lowers the risk of damaging peripheral blood vessels and nerves within the subcutaneous tissue.
