Monash University invests $1 B into new campus at Malaysia

More than 35 extra courses will be offered at the campus in priority fields including digital healthcare

Monash University Malaysia will partner with TRX City to deliver its 2.8 billion ringgit ($1 billion) local investment into a future Monash campus in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

Australia-based Monash University’s Vice-Chancellor and President Professor Sharon Pickering has announced the future Monash Malaysia Campus in Kuala Lumpur, alongside Prime Minister of Australia Anthony Albanese and Minister of Higher Education Malaysia, Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.

From 2032, the future Monash Malaysia Campus will support the growth and student demand for a Monash education, with capacity for 22,500 students and 1,700 staff from beyond 2040.

The University is working with the Australian and Malaysian Governments to bring this future campus to life, and expand international research and education programmes.

The future complete campus, which will be in addition to the current Malaysia campus, will house cutting-edge research centres in energy transition, health, AI, and data science, and is located in Kuala Lumpur’s Financial District alongside world-class financial institutions to accelerate collaboration, innovation and strengthen employment-integrated education.

More than 35 extra courses will be offered at the campus in priority fields vital to Malaysia and the future global workforce such as; digitisation, AI and cyber security, climate change and sustainability, healthcare and digital health, semiconductor and advanced manufacturing, banking and finance.

Monash University Malaysia’s investment is expected to contribute $6.5AUD billion (RM19.1 billion) to the local economy over the next decade through direct investment and broader economic impacts across infrastructure, innovation, workforce, students and community.

Monash University works closely with partners in ASEAN countries including campus in Indonesia, and across Singapore, Cambodia, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Philippines, Brunei Darussalam; and contributes to the objectives of Malaysia’s New Industrial Master Plan 2030.
