Singapore has pledged a contribution of $1 million to Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance (Gavi). This reflects Singapore’s support of efforts to bring life-saving vaccines to communities in need, especially in low-income countries.
Vaccines are one of the most effective tools in preventing diseases and saving lives. However, millions of people around the world still lack access to essential vaccines. Gavi bridges these gaps by working with governments, international organisations, and private sector partners to deliver vaccines to underserved populations. It also plays a pivotal role in enhancing pandemic preparedness, improving immunisation systems and ensuring equitable access to vaccines during global health emergencies.
Singapore recognises the value of collective action in building stronger health systems and the need for international collaboration to address health challenges effectively. Singapore has been supporting Gavi’s efforts, including donating $5 million to the Gavi COVID-19 Vaccine Global Access (COVAX) Advance Market Commitment in 2020 and 1.6 million doses of vaccine allocation through COVAX in 2021, to support low and lower-middle-income countries’ access to COVID-19 vaccines.
