The Technical and Scientific Solution (TSS) group is part of the Merck Life Science Business and provides high quality scientific and technical support to Merck customers developing or manufacturing biopharmaceuticals.  This scientist/engineer role will be part of a TSS team mainly covering Indonesia. This is a rewarding role for an experienced and confident scientist/engineer with an interest in commercial pharma process development and manufacturing.
Your Role:

  • Scientific client support role, planning, executing and documenting experimental projects at client sites.
  • Supporting client process development teams with screening and optimizing bioprocess technologies such as normal flow filtration (clarification, sterile and virus removal), tangential flow filtration and chromatography, typically in pre-clinical to clinical phase II development projects
  • Support scale-up implementation and ensure operational best practices is adopted.
  • Involve in selection, sizing and process optimization activities associated with downstream purification of biopharmaceutical.
  • Perform data analysis and provide recommendations for optimized process conditions, scale-up and troubleshooting.
  • Provide technical report analysis and presentations of work in timely fashion.
  • Work in collaboration with Merck Commercial teams to prioritize projects, plan and execute support activities required that are aligned with the business strategy.
  • Participate in technical discussions directly with customers as and when required
  • Support/deliver basic and standard trainings in core technologies as part of standard Merck training course for client.
  • Support testing of technologies in development at customer sites.
  • Contribute as a team member to technical publications and industry conferences
  • Support Tech Ops and manage trial equipment and inventory as and when required.
  • Support Investment project activities such as P&ID review, PFD review, mass balance calculation, automation support.  

Who you are:

  • This role required cross border reporting and work with colleagues at different time zone.
  • Based in Bandung or near Bandung.
  • Understood GMP requirement and regulation.
  • Minimum bachelor’s in pharmaceutical/biological/chemical engineering/Bioscience with at least 3 years of relevant biopharma industrial experience and expertise in separation and purification
  • Technical communication skills (verbal and written) in Bahasa and English
  • Confidence delivering oral presentations
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a customer centric mindset
  • Highly motivated, self-direct and able to work independently.
  • Field-based work up to 70% of time to customers within Indonesia (with occasional global travel expected).
