Japan-based Kaneka Corporation has released a product that can simultaneously detect COVID-19 - Real-time PCR detection kit for 19 Omicron (BA.1), "occult" Omicron (BA.2) and delta variants.

The product- Kaneka RT-PCR Kit " SARS-CoV-2 (Omicron/Delta) ver.2” is priced at 121,000 yen (tax included, for 100 tests).

The proprietary reagents used in this test kit were developed using the technology related to the detection of kinematic molecules, and the presence of three mutant strains can be detected by a single PCR test. This is expected to help reduce the burden of testing and help select the most appropriate drugs and treatments for each variant in a clinical setting.

Kaneka has released the following three products: Kaneka Direct RT-PCR Kit SARS-CoV-2 (an in-vitro diagnostic reagent using Kaneka’s original sample processing technology, which can produce test results in less than an hour), a simultaneous detection Kaneka RT-PCR Kit 'SARS-CoV-2 (L452R/E484Q/E484K/N501Y)' that can detect four mutant strains, and Kaneka RT-PCR Kit that can detect COVID-19 Delta and Omicron mutants PCR Kit 'SARS-CoV-2 (Omicron/Delta)'.
