WHO has announced a $100-million plan to contain the virus
Singapore: UN has allocated $3mn to fight the deadly Ebola outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo. The Congolese health ministry said that it had confirmed six cases of the virus so far, with 13 suspected cases kept under quarantine.
In a statement, WHO cautioned that all countries must be vigilant and prepared as the outbreak centered in Africa may spread to other nations as well.
Mr Nyka Alexander, WHO spokesperson, said that there is a potential risk of Ebola spread in other nations too. She mentioned that according to WHO's estimates the outbreak could take at least six to nine months to subside.
She said, "At the moment the situation is very difficult in some of the countries. Neighboring nations must be more vigilant as there is an easy chance of the virus spreading to those nations."
WHO has announced a $100-million plan in an attempt to contain the virus. WHO staff are deployed at the epicenter scrambling to assist affected patients and to bolster healthcare systems in the worst-hit countries.
