The charity said 738 people each day are told that they have Type 2 diabetes

Singapore: Diabetes charity UK said that diabetes in UK had swelled up to become a national public health emergency with 2,80,000 people reported to suffer from the chronic illness every year.

The charity revealed that 738 people were diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes on a daily basis. Most of the cases were reported to be associated with obesity.

Ms Barbara Young, chief executive, Diabetes charity UK mentioned that the scenario was frightening and the crisis was huge enough to be treated as a national health emergency.

She added that diabetes results in various other health ailments like kidney failure and heart diseases and can tragically end the younger, most productive population of the country.

The charity revealed that 4 mn people are diabetic in the country. It stressed upon healthy lifestyle and eating habits to undermine the high number of cases in the country.
