Vygon Group joins forces with EFCNI

12 November 2019 | News

Vygon, bronze partner of the European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI), organizes a number of awareness activities to coincide with the event, in hospitals worldwide

France based Vygon Group, a specialist single-use medical devices group, is organizing a number of awareness events in hospitals worldwide for World Prematurity Day on November 17. Vygon is renewing its bronze partnership with EFCNI for the fifth time, with an enhanced program and increased involvement. Several initiatives will be introduced on this year’s chosen theme, ‘Born too soon: providing the right care, at the right time, in the right place’.

Prematurity is a worldwide issue; one of the main risk factors for morbidity and mortality in the newborn population. Fifteen million babies are born prematurely each year.

“Our teams have joined forces throughout the world to make World Prematurity Day an awareness event and an opportunity for parents and nursing staff to share,” said Stéphane Regnault, CEO of Vygon. “It is essential that we develop medical devices especially for the most vulnerable newborn infants, working hand in hand with specialist physicians to provide these babies with the best possible conditions for their development. For this reason we recently launched Surfcath, a catheter designed especially for premature babies with Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Similarly, our Nutrisafe2 secure enteral feeding system caters for the high-precision dosing needs of premature babies, preventing connection errors.”

Since 2008, the European Foundation for the Care of Newborn Infants (EFCNI) and associations of parents of premature infants have organized awareness initiatives to coincide with World Prematurity Day. EFNCI is the first pan-European organization to represent the interests of premature and newborn babies and their families. Its members are parents, healthcare specialists from various disciplines and scientists, who all share the aim of improving the long-term health of premature and newborn infants. Its vision is to ensure the best start in life for all babies. EFCNI’s efforts aim to reduce the rate of premature birth, ensure the best possible treatment and care, and standardize the care of newborn infants in all European countries.

Vygon’s specialist neonatology teams in Europe actively contribute to this awareness day by taking part in a variety of local initiatives in hospitals. For example, a competition held in Benelux will reward the best photo report on the theme of ‘A day in the life of a nurse’.

There is worldwide involvement, featuring Vygon subsidiaries and distributors in Australia, Argentina, Bahrain, Brazil, Brunei, Cambodia, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Croatia, Ecuador, Egypt, Finland, Germany, Honduras, Indonesia, Iran, Ireland, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Lithuania, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Oman, Pakistan, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam and elsewhere.
