Job Description

We teach oral health therapists, dental technicians, dentists, dental specialists, and researchers, while also providing best-practice dental services to the community.

The role/Te mahi

In order to support our newly developed facility, an opportunity exists for an experienced Team Leader to join the Faculty, focused on the leadership of the clinical areas within the new dental clinic and coordination of day-to-day clinical support for students, staff, and patients.


You will work in partnership with academic, clinical and professional staff, working to develop a supportive and high-performing work culture focused on providing a positive, patient centric experience.

Key tasks will include:

  • Monitoring and implementing clinical practices, systems and procedures to optimise efficiency.
  • Continually improving the customer experience through service design and quality delivery.
  • Planning and collaboration on clinical rosters in order to meet operational needs.
  • Ensuring a high degree of cross infection prevention by maintaining quality hygiene practice, ensuring Infections Control Protocols are followed to protect patients, students and staff.
  • Completing a weekly stores order for bulk store items and ensuring all materials and equipment are available in the Dispensaries for the Clinics.
  • Working in consultation to develop an annual work plan that cascades goals and objectives to staff, clarifying specific responsibilities, KPI's and expected outcomes of success.
  • Monitoring and evaluating individual and team performance, to support and enhance individual and team development and achievements.
  • Managing the day-to-day work activities of the team, including timelines, and prioritising and allocating workflow.

Skills And Experience/Kā Pūkeka Me Kā Wheako

  • Previous practical clinical experience.
  • Experience developing and delivering clinical training.
  • Knowledge and understanding of legislation and regulations which apply to the clinical environment e.g. New Zealand Privacy Act 1993, Principles of the Privacy Act 1993.
  • Understanding of the legislation and rules required to provide a safe and hazard free work environment for staff and visitors.
  • Prior experience with patient management programs e.g. Titanium.
  • New Zealand Dental Assistants' Certificate or equivalent.
  • Excellent people and communication skills.
  • Sterilising experience in a dental or hospital facility is an advantage.

This is a full-time (37.5 hours per week), permanent position. Some flexibility with working hours may be required at times.
