Thai scientist 'raps' vaccine song, wins award

Singapore: Dr Phanramphoei Namprachan Frantz, a researcher at the virology and cell technology laboratory, National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC), won the Euraxess Science Slam ASEAN 2013.

The competition is a platform for scientists to showcase their research projects to their peers and to the public.

Dr Frantz entered the first round competition by submitting a two-minute VDO clip singing a rap song about her current work on the development of vaccine combating Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV).

She was among the five finalists chosen from 40 VDO submissions. The final-round competition was held in Singapore on September 25, 2013, in which each finalist made a 10-minute presentation in front a live audience of 150.

Dr Frantz was awarded a trip to Brussels in Belgium, where she will attend the Euraxess Voice of Researchers Conference along with the winners of the other Euraxess Science Slams, which are organized in the US, Japan, India, China and Brazil.
