Singapore: Korea-based electronic giant Samsung has recently announced that it had partnered with Thermo Fisher scientific, a US-based bio supplier giant to cooperate on the diagnostics business and target the global medical equipment market.

Industry insiders stated that, amid shrinking smartphone revenues, the electronic giant has targeted healthcare and medical services business as its major growth engines.

Under the agreement, Samsung will be supplying devices that diagnose acute heart disease, metabolism and inflammatory diseases to Thermo Fisher Scientific, which has the world's largest sales network in the medical equipment sector.

Samsung also has some of the most recent and innovative technologies in its kitty, such as Labgeo IB10, a portable diagnostic equipment system that performs various tests quickly and accurately in emergency situations.

"With over 50 years of experience and massive presence all major countries, Thermo Fisher Scientific will help Samsung in strengthening its medical equipment and diagnostic base across the globe for future expansion," said, Mr Cho Soo-in, head of the medical equipment business division at Samsung Electronics.

He said, "We will continue to develop medical instruments and equipment that consumers can use safely and conveniently." Recently, Samsung Medison, Samsung Group's medical equipment maker affiliate, also released the first premium ultrasound diagnostic equipment, the RS80A, in the United States under the Samsung brand.
